Why did you join the Barclays Black Founder Accelerator?
I was previously a Biomedical Scientist before moving into the music industry, so I don't come from a business background. So I joined this accelerator to simply accelerate my learning and growth to take my business to the next level.
Why did you want to start your business?
The music industry has always been hanging on the coat-tail of tech companies and at the moment, there are currently no other companies providing agency and strategy to cooperation’s to ensure their smooth adoption of Web3 technology. We understand that there is an extremely steep learning curve when it comes to Web3, but we feel that our special power is to reduce that curve and bridge the gap between music and tech. But more importantly, we make music industry stakeholders feel comfortable through showing them low risk opportunities within Web3 and show them that we can create truly impactful cultural moments using ideas that shift and content that connects with fans and the masses.
What would be your desired outcome from this programme?
To learn the process of raising funds and best business practices.
Which entrepreneur inspires you the most and why?
Byron Allen - After watching his interview on the breakfast club and hearing his story and views on economic inclusion, it made me re-evaluate and think bigger on my goals.
What has been your biggest win in your entrepreneurial journey?
At Soga World we did the First ever NFT ticketed music event in the UK, where we partnered with GET Protocol to create NFT tickets for South African giants, Major League DJz, for their first headline show in London. This was a significant use case and a big win as it showed that blockchain tech could be used within music beyond just buying and selling crypto.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Scaling up and finding the right team of people who have the same passion for music and tech as we do. Its a very niche space at the moment with huge potential for fast growth but the learning curve is steep and finding great creative PM's to build with us has been challenging.
Where did you go for business advice and how did it help you?
Youtube and Podcasts. Its free and plentiful and helped me get started.
What drives you to make your business a success?
There hasn't been a creation of a new asset class in centuries and we are standing at the genesis of one, which is truly fortunate. There are plenty of opportunities and a chance to create culture norms, which doesn't happen often and that what drives me.
What advice would you give other founders thinking about starting their own business?
Biggest risk you could ever take is to not take that risk. You can't fall off the floor, so might as well give it ago. If you fear starting a business, just know that the fear you feel is a sign that you're moving in the right direction. So act on it.
