Why did you join the Barclays Black Founder Accelerator?
To understand how to build a sustainable business, scale up and ensure longevity. I am lookign for guideance on how tnavigate the world of business from finance, cash flow, growth and hiring.
Why did you want to start your business?
To feel the freedom of ownership, support the people around me and in my community by hopefully providing employment and to try and leave a legacy for myself.
What would be your desired outcome from this programme?
For FRWD studio to have a stable foundation and be in a position to thrive. I want to have learned more about cash flow forecasting, building and executing a business plan as well as be in a good position to scale up or hire the right way.
Which entrepreneur inspires you the most and why?
Barrington Reeves of Too Gallus, a Scottish-based design agency owner. Following his journey in the last 3/4 years has inspired me to stand up, speak up and go for it with the full authenticity of who I am. Knowing that people whole look like me can make an impact in the creative industry and leave their mark on incredible projects really inspired me to hustle hard and make this work.
What has been your biggest win in your entrepreneurial journey?
Surviving 2 years thought someone of the most trouble and stressful times in recent times for a business. We all had our moments, but being able to stand here and say FRWD Studio is still in business is a very big win in my eyes.
What has been your biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge has been cash flow forecasting, dealing with late invoice payments and navigating the business landscape at a time when everyone is feeling the pinch. Wanting to scale, but not having the means or knowledge on how to effectively do this and still be sustainable.
Where did you go for business advice and how did it help you?
Mentor Black Business and online support groups.
What drives you to make your business a success?
My 100% belief in it and what success in business can do for myself and my family. I could be the provide a better future for us and open so many new doors for people around me to follow their dreams.
What advice would you give other founders thinking about starting their own business?
Be prepared to roll your sleeves up. The journey is exciting, enjoy it and as the first thing you do, find someone to guide/mentor you. It makes everything that much easier, even if it's a chat to help you sound out business ideas or vent.
