Crown Beauty Book

Crown Beauty Book is an innovative hair and beauty marketplace, connecting users to inclusive vetted hair and beauty providers, saving clients time from scrolling through endless platforms just to find the right professional.
Why did you join the Barclays Black Founder Accelerator?
An accelerator for Black founders will provide me access to opportunities and skills needed to successfully grow my business. I feel confident joining a programme dedicated to support Black founders like myself.
Why did you want to start your business?
Crown Beauty Book’s objective is to see people of colour authentically being represented in marketing and professionals to recognise our value within the industry. Currently beauty marketplaces do not serve everyone. 66% of black women in the UK struggle to find the right beauty technicians.
What would be your desired outcome from this programme?
I would be grateful to improve my skills and knowledge to prepare me to scale my brand, solving this problem faced by many other black women like myself.
Which entrepreneur inspires you the most and why?
Robyn Rihanna Fenty inspires me. She saw a gap needed in the market affecting women of colour and provided a solution and continues to find solutions that affect women not categorically grouped as the 'standard market'. Robyn is all about inclusivity, and I am in awe in all she has been able to accomplish over the years.
What has been your biggest win in your entrepreneurial journey?
I have successfully and organically grown a community of over 310,000 followers that follow me for content that I am passionate about sharing, relating to black culture, black luxury and hair & beauty.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Tech has so far been my greatest challenge. Without the skills to build a website it took me a little longer to overcome this challenge.
Where did you go for business advice and how did it help you?
I am lucky to have a very small network of advisors that has been assisting me with support from tech support to business advice.
What drives you to make your business a success?
My passion to build a solution that I also can benefit from as well as 90% of the women in my life. It is a daily conversation within the black community about hair and beauty services and somewhat can be negative experiences. I am here to change that narrative, especially relating to #blackcustomerservice.
What advice would you give other founders thinking about starting their own business?
Just START. You don't need a plan before you build your business. Passion and consistency are key to this journey. With accelerator programmes like this, you will gain the skills, knowledge to learn and understand the position, value, and clarity of your brand. With time it will all fall into place.
