BAME Skincare is the first clinical grade skincare line dedicated to skin of colour, created by doctors and cosmetic chemists.
We are an inclusive skincare brand which provides safe and effective solutions for the skin conditions that affect us most. We are here to revolutionise the way skincare is delivered to people of colour by providing a one stop shop of online and in-person clinic services, consumer and professional products and a teaching academy.
Why did you join the Barclays Black Founder Accelerator?
I have applied for this accelerator as I feel as I am brand new to starting a successful and sustainable business and I would most certainly need help and guidance from those who have gone through the process. Meeting and talking to other entrepreneurs and founders, including going to events hosted by Foundervine and others, has taught me one thing – support is out there, expertise are available, network as if your life depended on it! I feel this the Barclays Black Founder Accelerator Programme ticks all the boxes and I’m so fortunate to be given this amazing opportunity.
Why did you want to start your business?
I started this business to address an need in the skincare industry. I aim to normalize skincare for darker skin tones. I aim to increase education and awareness in treating skin of colour. I aim to increase the accessibility to skincare services and good quality, effective and most importantly, safe, skincare products.
What would be your desired outcome from this programme?
My desired outcomes will be: 1) To increase awareness of the brand and services 2) To help people whose self esteem has been affected by untreated/easily treated skin concerns 3) To increase the knowledge of skin care professionals in treating skin of colour safely and effectively. 4) To build my support network and meet amazing and inspiring people!
Which entrepreneur inspires you the most and why?
Steven Barlett - Created a successful company from nothing. He has such wise words and practices self reflection, something that is so important for growth and development.
What has been your biggest win in your entrepreneurial journey?
My Biggest win - being accepted onto this amazing programme!
What has been your biggest challenge?
Working alongside manufacturers and suppliers who don't share your values or deadlines!
Where did you go for business advice and how did it help you?
I go to youtube, podcasts, my trusty kindle, organisations like enterprise nation - these all give me inspiration and point me in the right direction.
What drives you to make your business a success?
To give people of colour a high quality service and confidence through great skin!
