Why did you join the Barclays Black Founder Accelerator?
Optimus Health is at a delicate stage of development where our paying user base has started growing, we believe Barclays accelerator can offer us valuable guidance to steer our company to become the scalable profitable enterprise that we want it to become.
I specifically want to explore the support network for technology/product development and raising investment.
Why did you want to start your business?
As a medical doctor, fitness coach and data scientist I’ve had the privilege of working with hundreds of clients with a wide variety of wellbeing problems. Despite there being a multitude of solutions to specific problems that people may have in regards to wellbeing for example, depression, obesity or sleeping problems, there is nothing that brings all the domains of wellbeing together holistically in a way that simplifies, organises allows people to have an overview of how their wellbeing habits, practices and support facilities actually fit together. As a data scientist I am equipped with the knowledge of data, design and technology to bring the domains of wellbeing together holistically in a way that allows people to have more control in attaining their optimal lifestyle and desired wellbeing.
What would be your desired outcome from this programme?
- Raise seed funding.
- Grow my Team ( tech development, management and strategy/marketing).
Which entrepreneur inspires you the most and why?
Elon Musk because he is fearless when building what he thinks will make a better future for the inhabitants of the world. He makes decisions with his heart/soul instead of just thinking about money. He is practical as an engineer but also visionary like a dreamer.
What has been your biggest win in your entrepreneurial journey?
Raising funding (£100k) for my first start up Protime Ltd and then exiting the company in 2016.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Working as a medical doctor at the same time as building Optimus Health and funding it all by myself instead of looking for external investment.
Where did you go for business advice and how did it help you?
I read entrepreneurial books, listened to podcasts and watch educational entrepreneurial videos online for business advice I also personally reached out on Linkedin to knowledgable people the space of wellbeing to get their opinion on specific matters.
What drives you to make your business a success?
The fundamental belief that thousands of people lives can be literally saved if wellbeing is approached holistically instead in the current way it is being approached, which is fragmented and disconnected.
Wellbeing is a science and an art, the science is what we can objectively measure and show empirical evidence for and the art is each and every single person having different desires, goals and expectations of ourselves and our lives.
What advice would you give other founders thinking about starting their own business?
Be deeply passionate about the problem you are solving and the solution will eventually come.
