My Afro Caribbean Wedding

My Afro Caribbean Wedding is changing the way black and multicultural communities plan their events and weddings. Our platform offers a suite of collaborative planning tools for events and weddings.
The innovative platform enables users to plan their events with a guest list manager, budget manager, to do list, check list, create a wedding page, Guest RSVP, search and shortlist through a vendor directory of suppliers, and more.
Why did you join the Barclays Black Founder Accelerator?
Mentoring, network opportunities, support in growing the business and funding.
Why did you want to start your business?
Launching the first MVP product in January 2019, My Afro Caribbean Wedding have grown into the go to platform for events and wedding planning across the black and multicultural community in the UK and US. My Afro Caribbean Wedding was started due to the missing niche market not tapped into by any of the major events / wedding planning platforms to cater for the needs of the black and multicultural community.
What would be your desired outcome from this programme?
Build a network, gain promotional support, business readiness for funding and foundation to unlock our business value.
Which entrepreneur inspires you the most and why?
Elon Musk is an inspiring entrepreneur for many reasons, but perhaps the most pertinent is his drive. He had the intelligence to accomplish whatever he wanted, but without ambition and passion, intelligence gets you nowhere.
What has been your biggest win in your entrepreneurial journey?
Getting positive results out of an idea that once was nothing is one of the proudest moments of my life.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Launching the paid version of the product, and then boom - pandemic arrives. Also myself being the CEO, COO, CTO, CFO without a team to help grow the business.
Where did you go for business advice and how did it help you?
Liverpool Enterprise Business hub however didn't get much support due to lack of knowledge of supporting or growing a black business. Hence why I'm excited to join the Barclays Black Founder Accelerator programme which caters primarily for Black businesses.
What drives you to make your business a success?
Avoid focusing on what everyone else is doing and look at what we can do (no matter how small) to differentiate our products from our competitors. Finding our unique selling point (USP) to maximise appeal to our target demographic is an effective way to define the brand and stand out from the crowd.
What advice would you give other founders thinking about starting their own business?
Mistakes are an inevitable part of launching any business. What's important is that you learn from these missteps, never give up and come back stronger than ever.
