Association of Black Event Professionals

The Association of Black Event Professionals (ABEP) is an organisation that represents Black individuals, businesses and suppliers within the events industry.
It’s our mission to create THE largest network of it’s kind in the UK, cementing our place in the event industry to change the game for better and forever. ABEP’s vision is to support sustainable growth for Black Event Professionals in the events industry with a predominant focus on the United Kingdom and a secondary focus on the USA and Africa.
Why did you join the Barclays Black Founder Accelerator?
To excel! Meet like minded individuals, vent and learn from others and scale up as a business.
Why did you want to start your business?
To be the go to place to support other Black Event Professionals, hence we became an association. Our research found that within UK event trade bodies and associations there are 0% Black people at board level. We needed to do something about this and who better to support the community than the community itself.
What would be your desired outcome from this programme?
Meet new business associates, Expand my business knowledge, be able to establish new business methods.
Which entrepreneur inspires you the most and why?
Sharmadean Reid, versatile, has started and moved onto new projects, continued growth, community mindset great role model.
What has been your biggest win in your entrepreneurial journey?
Growing my team and establishing a goof foundation on processes and community.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Surviving Covid.
Where did you go for business advice and how did it help you?
Friends, family a lot of self development, and business friends.
What drives you to make your business a success?
I have no choice. Its legacy building, I need more people to have access to opportunities i didn't in order to fast track journeys and be supported.
What advice would you give other founders thinking about starting their own business?
Do it, take risks, ask questions, research your market and hold on tight as it's a rollercoaster of a ride!
