What is the Barclays Black Founders Accelerator powered by Foundervine?
It’s a virtual accelerator programme designed to support Black founders through a 12-week intensive programme with the ambition to encourage more Black entrepreneurs to start their own businesses, scale and become investment-ready.
The programme includes a series of masterclasses focused on product development, sales strategy, operations and leadership development for Black founders – as well as mentorship and professional coaching from scale-up experts.
When is it taking place?
There will be weekly sessions from November 2020 to February 2021.
What skills will be covered?
The programme will cover 12 different areas needed to grow and scale a pre-seed business:
- Defining your value proposition
- Identifying key financial drivers and metrics
- Developing your product
- Branding and design
- Market growth
- Building a sales strategy
- Managing cash flow
- Legal essentials for entrepreneurs
- How to raise capital
- Pitching for impact
- Hiring good people
What can participants expect to get out of the programme?
Founders should finish the accelerator with:
- A well formed business model
- A network of experienced mentors and peers
- An informal advisory board
- Significant product prototyping progress
- Progress in team and board development
- An investment-ready pitch deck
- A clear plan for growth
Who should apply?
We’re looking to hear from early-stage UK-based pre-seed technology startups with a minimum viable proposition and at least one Black founder or C-suite member.
What is Foundervine?
Foundervine is an award-winning social enterprise focused on running immersive entrepreneurship labs that help young people from under-represented communities imagine, start and grow new ventures.
What is the application process?
Foundervine is running the application process. Anyone interested should apply via the Foundervine website and complete a simple application form. Applications are open until 29 October 2020.
What is the selection process?
Applications will be assessed by Barclays and Foundervine – plus industry experts and SMEs in local ecosystems. We’ll select the startups that we believe would benefit most from the programme.
What happens if I get selected?
We will inform you that you have been successful and schedule a 1-2-1 to discuss your business and the next steps.
What if I am not selected?
If we think you are not ready or the programme has been filled, we would like you to join our Eagle Labs community and for us to be able to offer you future opportunities and access to our other programmes and support. Sign up to the beta community platform here.
How many startups will be on the programme?
There will be up to 25 businesses.
Can my business partner join the programme too?
Yes, there’s room for two individuals from each business.
Is there any charge to take part?
No, the programme is free for all participants.
