Under the Spotlight:

Joe Tomlinson

In this Under The Spotlight, Yagro's software engineer Joe Tomlinson tells us about his trainers, the trials of vegan-hood and his lifelong fascination with Dame Judi Dench.

What do you enjoy most about working at the Eagle Labs?

Well, it's got a nice atmosphere - with the other companies around there's a nice community. I like the Pizza and Beer nights... and the readily available beer in general! I do like how it's big and spacious. The last place I worked was a bit of a man-cave, a living-room type office set up, whereas here it's nice and big!

Providing it's not confidential, can you tell us what you're working on at the moment?

I'm currently working on our new website yagro.com. The home page is now live and I'm adding the other pages. If it's not finished by the time this newsletter goes out, I'll be very sad!

Which James Bond actor is your favourite?

Well... I like Judi Dench. The one where she gets killed - that was sad; Skyfall. And I did see Spectre as well. So I'm only really familiar with the Daniel Craig era and I haven't seen any of the older ones.

We were both team leaders for the same national pub/restaurant chain. Do you remember how much a pint of coke was circa 2011?

Well, they had northern and southern pricing, I was in the north at that time...maybe £2.05? Actually it was possibly £2.35

It was £2.65 in Cambridge! If you could have dinner with a famous person, living or dead, who would it be and why?

Judi Dench! She's a classy lady!

Is it expensive to be a vegan?

It should be cheaper because obviously beans and vegetables don't cost as much as meat and cheese. But since being a vegan I've tried to make really extravagant things so it ends up being extremely expensive; I buy loads of spices that I use once then never use again - I've got a whole cupboard full of basically nothing but spices!

Famous vegan, and family favourite farmer James Cromwell once said "That'll do pig, that'll do..." What are Yagro doing to help farmers?

Yagro are connecting farmers with suppliers through our online purchasing platform, helping farmers to save time and money.
