Salford Eagle Lab

The First 100 days

Matthew Sedgley - Service Assurance Manager at Barclays, Bournemouth

In November I wrote an article welcoming Salford to the Eagle Lab family, in typical Labs style barely 24 hours had passed before the team had departed to the far reaches of the country leaving Darren and James to get on with running the Lab.

In February I had the chance to go back to Salford to spend some more time with the Ecosystem manager, Darren O'Brien, and James Medd the Lab Technician. I was amazed to see their progress since launch.

In the first 100 days since opening, the Lab has welcomed 1300 visitors through its doors. Hosted 10 schools for code playground and curriculum enrichment sessions giving local students experiences that couldn't be delivered from their own classroom. Helped 12 businesses with rapid prototyping and helped local businesses generate much-needed funding. Not to mention developing their own IOT devices, Hosting the Northern Powerhouse, and enriching the local community with projects such as the video below from the local UTC.

Salford has become a flagship location for innovation within the community.

If you have 100 seconds spare; use them to see a snapshot of the action. Thanks to @UTCMediaCityUK students for producing this video.
