Legal Utopia, founded by Westminster Law School Alumnus - Fraser Matcham - joins Barclays Eagle Lab in Partnership with the Law Society.
Legal Utopia has successfully joined the Barclays Eagle Lab new law and technology incubator in partnership with the Law Society of England and Wales.
In April 2018, Westminster announced its collaborative partnership between Westminster Law School and the School of Computer Science and Engineering and Legal Utopia. The consortium, part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, is working to develop and manage an ambitious access to justice project – a web-based application software which can autonomously analyse a consumer’s problem and allocate it within multiple parameter of fields of law.
Barclays’ new post-accelerator LawTech lab also includes a partnership with14 prominent partner law firms including Clifford Chance, Clyde & Co, DWF and Capital Law, as well as its event partner Legal Geek and two universities. Legal Utopia was identified as a “high-growth potential” venture and so, was one of the first LawTech start-ups to join the incubator.
In response to joining the space, Fraser Matcham said:
“It is absolutely fantastic that Legal Utopia has joined this space to aid our expansion, and we are already seeing the benefits. In fact, only on the second day, I decided to upgrade our membership to a private office to ensure the team and its various incoming collaborators have the space and resources they need to be effective and efficient. Everyone from Legal Utopia is looking forward to meeting and working with Barclays Eagle Labs and all its partners.”
In June 2018, Legal Utopia took onboard Alumnus – Vasilis Kotsos – as their full-time A.I Software Engineer and Associate Research shortly after Vasilis was awarded a first-class honour in Computer Science. Vasilis said:
“It is tremendous to be working for Legal Utopia. They have provided an excellent work environment and great career progression prospects. It is also great that I get to work with other Westminster Alumni.”
Legal Utopia presented at the Barclays A.I Frenzy event last night with presentations from Barclays Ventures, magic circle law firms and other start-ups utilising artificial intelligence in law. The Legal Utopia presentation was delivered by Fraser Matcham and Vasilis Kotsos in front of the labs partners and start-ups, as well as investors, journalists and the General Counsel for Barclays UK – Stephanie Pagni.
