Eagle Labs turns two

Eagle Labs is celebrating two years of successfully supporting businesses and communities across the UK and supporting the UK economy.

With humble beginnings as a test-and-learn concept in Cambridge, the Eagle Labs proposition has made effective use of available Barclays’ estate to provide crucial services, each tailored to support the needs of the local market. More recently we’ve broadened our business model to work with partners and have extended our reach by partnering with like-minded organisations such as L&G, Avenue HQ, CodeBase and Ormeau Baths.

Over the last two years, we’ve grown our capability to a total of 15 sites with more in the pipeline, providing a robust mix of ‘maker spaces’, to enable the quick and easy creation of prototypes through digital fabrication; and ‘incubator’ spaces’, to help fledgling businesses to create, innovate and grow.

Earlier this year, we opened our first Scottish Eagle Lab in Edinburgh, and we’ve since signed a partnership with local government in the Isle of Man to open our second off-shore Eagle Lab. Both will help entrepreneurs and businesses to take shape and go on to flourish.

Our latest Lab in Reading is a partnership with Henley Business School and others and provides accelerator and incubator services to businesses that have reached the point of growing at scale, so that they can grow further.

Areas of focus

When creating a new Eagle Lab, we take time to gain deep insight into the local market and needs of the business community, so that we can tailor our services to provide the best support possible. We’ve also established programmes with specific sites acting as centres of excellence for industries such as AI, med-tech, creative and the ‘internet of things’ (IoT) to support growth in the UK.

We have an exciting future planned for Eagle Labs and will keep you up-to-date with the latest news and developments over the coming months.

If you’ve yet to experience an Eagle Lab for yourself, arrange a visit and find out more about how Barclays is investing in Britain’s future, by supporting local economies and communities.
